Formation and Service
The regiment was organized in August 1861 and mustered into service for a three-year term. It was primarily composed of men from Connecticut, particularly from the New Haven area.

The 8th Connecticut participated in several significant battles and campaigns, including:
Battle of Antietam (September 1862)
Battle of Fredericksburg (December 1862)
